INDIGESTION

Indigestion is a condition where the digestive juices are not secreted in the right proportion as a result you feel discomfort such as bloating or gas in your stomach. There are 2 culprits that play the role here and both are related to your food. First and foremost the food that you eat plays a vital role in the digestion and secondly, the manner in which you eat it is very important.

Indigestion is accompanied with symptoms like abdominal pains, cramps, poor bowel movements, heartburn and most off all lack of appetite. It is normally caused by acidity.

The best way to administer aromatherapy in the cure for indigestion is to not use Essential Oils internally. Instead use the herbs and plants listed below in teas and soups. We do not recommend the use of Essential Oils internally.

Take lemongrass for example, it helps the digestive system to heal and gets rid of stomach pains and cramps. Simply brew your morning tea with lemongrass and honey and you will get instant relief from your woes. You stand to get the same effect if you blend the lemongrass into a soup; however, avoid adding it to a tomato soup preparation as it is citric.

Peppermint will aid flatulence and any signs of colic in a baby. For colic simply pour a few drops of Peppermint oil on the reverse side of the child’s pillow. While the child sleeps they will get relief from any gas or heartburn that they may be suffering from. It can be used to take care of stomach cramps as well. Simply massage the oil onto your abdomen.

If your indigestion is causing a stomach ache then you should use Rosemary oil in a bath or in a diffuser.

The scent of Orange is extremely calming. If you do not have Orange oil with you, simply squeeze the rind of the Orange and sniff it.

Camomile oil should be massage onto your abdomen for you to get relief from any acidity and loss of appetite.

Blend Orange Bergamot, Lavender and any other citrus based oil and apply this to your temples, wrists and neck. These oils will help to get rid of any uneasiness as a result of the indigestion. They also help to reduce nausea and get rid of stomach cramps and headaches.

As stated earlier there are 2 main culprits that lead to indigestion. In addition to the ones mentioned over eating can also be a cause. Food allergies, lack of exercise and eating food that is not properly cooked can also lead to this condition.

Fortunately there are several remedies to help you

Gently massage the stomach with a soothing and comfortable oil such as Camomile, Lavender or Marjoram. A hot compress with one of these oils can be placed over the stomach and changed when cool or as often as needed.

Drinking Camomile, Fennel or Peppermint herbal infusions will quickly bring relief.

Drink plenty of water to help you relieve the effect of the food. Do not sleep though you may feel tired and lethargic. The food that you eat needs to be burnt or eliminated for you to feel any relief.

Add a few spoons of coriander juice to your glass of buttermilk. The buttermilk will give you instant relief and is an extremely beneficial way to helping you with your digestive system.

Add ginger to your tea and drink after your meals. The ginger helps to relieve any sensation of heartburn that you may experience.

Drink a spoon of fresh coriander juice with salt every hour to promote your health.

Brew a spoon of cumin seeds in a pot of water. Add honey to the water and boil it till you can smell the herbs brewing. Strain the mixture and drink the brewed tea. The herbs will relieve you of the discomfort within a few minutes.

Drink a cup of warm water with lemon and honey. The lemon is known to help prevent indigestion and relieve any discomfort that you may experience.
